Information on Dominos, taken from the Generations site.
The Color Domino
describes the color pattern on the dog. There are many different shades and
variations of this color pattern. They come in black, blue, silver, reds and
creams and also Brindle.
Just recently
our dogs have produced an interesting blue domino. She is considered a blue but
she carries the domino gene and to tell of this her domino making fade in as she
grows older. Her face feet under tail and under carriage silvers in as she gets
older and the rest stays blue.
Dominos come in
all shades in between those colors and majority of the time the color markings
fade to what you see above in the sire and dam. It is rare to see the dogs
keep the color in its long silky coat, but more often you will see some
dogs that kept the color makings on the short saddle coat under the silky that
has grown in a light cream or white like you would see in the dam.
The domino gene
is considered a dilute gene of a Black and tan or black and silver but the black
and tans has been seen as blue and silver as they grow older
The domino gene
is seen in other breeds like Salukis and Husky’s but they are not called
Dominos.
Historically the
domino marking did not come up till the early 1900’s from a Dutch Champion
named Domino. He has sired many litters in his day and produced many pups like
him. The official kennel club back then did not have a name for this color or
marking. So kennel club and the afghan breeders decided to name this color
patter after the dog named Domino
